Jim Cook is an experienced mobile technology executive and consultant, with over 25 years in technology product marketing, startup management and international business development.
For the past 15 years, Jim focused on cutting edge mobile applications, building in-depth knowledge of mobile marketing, mobile payments, m-commerce, and mobile money markets and services. He has served on the executive teams of mobile start-ups including Paythru (mobile payments), PacketVideo (mobile video) and Cambridge Positioning Systems (location based technology) in the roles of business development, marketing, and general management. In this positions he specialized in bringing new products, services, and technologies into international markets.
Prior to getting involved in mobile, Jim worked 8 years at Apple Computer in California and Paris as head of Product Marketing, and 3 years at the global payments company Verifone/Hewlett Packard.
In 2007 Jim co-founded and became editor of MobiAD News (www.mobiadnews.com). MobiAD is one of the leading online publications and newsletters focusing on mobile marketing, media, and commerce, and has 20,000 unique readers / 60,000 visits every month. He has spoken at most of the major mobile-focused conferences such as the Mobile World Congress , MEF Summits, and MMA events, and has served for numerous years on the juries of the GSMA Awards and the MEFFYs.
Jim is passionate about the role of mobile in developing regions, and as such devotes a significant amount of time to help accelerate innovative mobile projects and start-ups involving Mobile Health, Agriculture, Women, and Learnng around the world (www.m-spark.org).
Jim holds a Bachelors in Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), an executive MBA from INSEAD in France, and an MBA in Finance from University of Hawaii. He currently splits his time between London and Istanbul, doing business development consulting and mentoring start-ups. He is an original co-founder and a former member of Galata Business Angels, Istanbul.
